Lucio Retamar’s two-run single sparks Argentina victory against Singapore for Super Round spot

The Senior Men's Softball World Cup veteran gave Argentina the early lead to secure their third win and third-place finish in Group A, confirming their place in the Super Round with a 0-2 record.

Lucio Retamar's early heroics sparked Argentina's offence to close the Opening Round of the WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup with a 7-0 win over Singapore in five innings. Argentina finished in third place in Group A, confirming their spot in the Super Round.

Senior Men’s Softball World Cup veteran Retamar gave Argentina an early 2-0 lead in the game with a two-run single to the left field in the first inning. Juan Cruz Bambozzi and Alan Peker crossed the plate for the host team.

One inning later, Argentina strengthened their offence, taking advantage as Singapore pitchers Aloysius Ong and Huzaifie Bin Mohamad lost the strike zone. Six walks, two wild pitches and two passed balls allowed Argentina to score five runs in the second inning with no hits.

Starter Nahuel Saenz earned the win for Argentina, striking out eight opponents in three innings, with no hits and runs. Juan Jose Pepe, who tossed a no-hitter on Monday against Czechia, took care of the fourth and fifth innings, giving up one hit and a walk, with three strikeouts.

Argentina closed Group A with a 3-2 mark to place third in the standings and advance to the Super Round with a 0-2 record.
