12U BWC: Mexico shuts out Brazil to finish 7th

Mexico opens final day at 12U Baseball World Cup with 4-0 win on Sunday morning

Youth Park/Taipei City. Mexico is finishing in seventh place in the final standings of the II 12U Baseball World Cup. On Sunday morning they shut out Brazil 4-0 at Youth Park to conclude the tournament.

It was a fast game, lasting just one hour and 14 minutes. Hector Vargas kept Brazil to just two hits and a walk in six scoreless innings. Eric Taniguchi in the second and Victor Mascai in the third reached with singles, Joao Ferraz with a walk in the fifth. Otherwise the South Americans couldn’t do anything.

Meanwhile Mexico’s offense went to business right in the beginning. Jesus Castillo gave them a 1-0 lead with a RBI single in the first. One frame later they loaded the bases with two outs and Victor Zazueta came through with a three-run bases clearing double.

After the rocky start, Brazil’s hurler Victor Guenji settled in, but still ended up with the loss, conceding four runs (3 ER) on seven hits in five innings.
