A 2-home run, 6 RBI game by second baseman Chanhyung Kim was the highlight of an spectacular offensive performance by Korea, who recovered from a 6-run lead in the first inning to overcome Australia, 14-7, and clinch their third win of the tournament.

The starting pitchers of both teams had a bad outing this morning at 18 de Junio stadium in Montería.

In the bottom of the first episode, the Korean Hee Won Ryu could not record even one out before being pulled out, after facing only four batters. Aaron Whitefield scored thanks to a wild pitch, while Robert Glendinning doubled to left field to plate one more. The last batter Ryu faced was Samuel Kennelly, who hit an RBI single down the middle. The Korean starter allowed 4 runs and 3 hits, with 1 ticket, but he ended with no decision.

In relief came Sung Young Choi (who would end up winning the game, with 4.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 6 K) who walked to Jack Barrie and already with two outs received a three-run home run by Mitchell Warke-Edwards through left field, putting the game 6-0 after one complete inning.

However, at the top of the second inning the Korean bats exploded with eight runs. With the bases loaded, Yuyeon Park produced Korea’s first run with a single, and three pitches later Kim hit a grand slam, the first of his two homers, to put the game 6-5.

Already with two outs, Gyeongwon Jun hit a 2-RBI doubled to take the lead, and then scored the eighth with another double Sungju Moon.

From that moment, the Korean bullpen stopped the Australian offensive, and only allowed one more run, in the bottom of the sixth, with a solo homer of Warke-Edwars to left field, its second bomb of the game.

For its part, the Asian team continued adding runs, with one in the fourth inning, with a single by Sungju Moon.

In the top of the seventh, with the game 9-7, Donghui Han came to take turns with two runners on base, and the Asian third baseman hit a long three-run homer to start securing the result.

One inning later, Kim hit his second home run of the day, a two-run shot through the middle of the field that put the final numbers on the scoreboard.

Korea has a record of 3 and 1 and tomorrow will close the group stage against Venezuela, where they will try to reach the first place in Group B. The game will be at 10 o’clock. For its part, Australia will seek its classification against Puerto Rico at 20 hs
