Emiliani homers to cut it short, Colombia beats South Africa

The hosts outscored and outhit (13-2) the opponents and earned their second win in the tournament. ‘El Silenciador de Bates’ Hugo Beltran, born in Barranquilla in 2000, went 3.2 innings and left with a standing ovation

The hosts Colombia recorded the second win in the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup as they beat South Africa 11-0. Leandro Emiliani homered in the top of the eighth to create the run differential that cut the game short.

Colombia wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard. With a runner on first and two outs, first baseman Bryan Emery doubled off South Africa starter Garth Cahill.
The hosts took full advantage of a passed ball on a strike out that would have closed the top of the second. Lead off hitter Perez followed with a two-RBI single.

Colombia broke the score open in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on three doubles: by third baseman Pomare, Perez and center fielder Vidal.
The homer by Leandro Emiliani in the top of the eighth scored the last two runs of the night.

Los Angeles Dodgers top prospect Hugo Beltran, born in 2000 in Barranquilla, pitched 3.2 innings and allowed only one hit and a walk. As he left, El silenciador de bates received a standing ovation. Sergio Palacio took care of the rest of the game.
