Gabriel Cancel guides Puerto Rico to first win with 6 RBI

Puerto Rico defeated today Czech Republic, 20-0, in five innings and claimed the first win of the U-23 Baseball World Cup. Second baseman Gabriel Cancel finished with 6 RBI for the winning team, that scored in every inning.

Puerto Rico defeated today Czech Republic, 20-0, in five innings and claimed the first win of the U-23 Baseball World Cup. Second baseman Gabriel Cancel finished with 6 RBI for the winning team, that scored in every inning.

Puerto Rico hit safely 18 times throughout the game to clinch the win. In the first inning JAy Feliciano produced the first two runs with a single, while Cancel hit a 3-run home run; Xavier Fernandes followed with a solo shot.

Then the winning team scored four more runs in the second, two in the third, another one in the fourth and seven in the fifth to sum 20 runs for the game, a new record for the U-23 Baseball World Cup. Before, in Monterrey 2016, Panama and Korea had scored 17 runs, against Czech Republic and South Africa respectively.

Puerto Rico earned their first win and tomorrow will close the Opening Round against Australia. IN the other hand, Czech Republic will play their fifth game of the tournament against Dominican Republic.
