Japan, Chinese Taipei, Korea and Philippines qualify for the Asian Baseball Championship super round

TAIPEI CITY (Taiwan)-The top 3 teams of the Baseball Asian Championship will qualify for the WBSC U-23 World Cup 2018. Japan, Chinese Taipei, Korea and Philippines are the Nations competing in the super round

Undefeated Japan got started with a 3-0 win against Korea in the super round of the 2017 Asian Baseball Championship. Japan now shares first place with Chinese Taipei. The 2 Asias Powerhouses are tied with a 3-0 record.
The hosts will play later today against Philippines, who qualified for the super round thanks to a 10-0 win against Hong Kong in a 1 game play off.
Korea (that lost in the preliminary round against Chinese Taipei) will face Philippines tomorrow, while Japan will play Chinese Taipei.

The top 3 teams at the end of the super round will qualify for the WBSC U-23 World Cup 2018.
Number 1 and number 2 seed will compete for the Asian Championship gold medal, while number 3 and number 4 seed will play for the bronze. The finals are scheduled for Sunday 10 October.

Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong are playing in the consolation round for places from 5 to 7.
Sri Lanka qualified for the Asian Championship for the first time and during the tournament showcased their top pitching prospect: 16 year old Karunarathne Chirath. According to the web site Extra Innings: Baseball Around the World, Chirath could be the first ever player from Sri Lanka to attract interest from pro scouts.
