Puerto Rico tops Netherlands, takes one step closer to Bronze Medal Game

The Caribbean squad scored five runs in the top of the third to take control of the game and take a key win.

Puerto Rico defeated the Netherlands, 10-4, on the fifth day of the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup in Lima, and improved its record to 4-2. The Caribbean squad scored five runs in the top of the third to take control of the game and grab a key win, leaving the team in a strong position to advance to Sunday’s Bronze Medal Game. 

Aminah Vega scored for Puerto Rico the first run of the game in the top of the first inning, but Netherlands took the lead in the second, with a two-run single by Laura Schouten. 

However, the Puerto Rican line-up exploded with five in the top of the third to take control of the game. 

Both teams used three pitchers during the game. The winning pitcher for Puerto Rico was Macey Cintron, who tossed three innings of three hits and one run, with a walk.
