Abbott’s dominant night leads USA to win over Chinese Taipei

Monica Abbott collected 14 strikeouts in six scoreless innings and allowed just 3 hits. The two-time Olympic medallist earned the victory.

USA closed day 2 of the competition with a six-inning, 7-0 victory over Chinese Taipei, and moves one step closer to securing a spot in Tuesday’s semifinals of The World Games 2022 softball event. Amanda Lorenz hit a walk-off double to left-field in the sixth inning to finish the game via the run-ahead rule.

Monica Abbott collected 14 strikeouts over 6 scoreless innings pitched and surrenders just 3 hits. The two-time Olympic medallist was credited with the win.

Dejah Mulipola led the US offense, going 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, while Haylie McCleney and Amanda Lorenz delivered 2-for-4 performances from the top two spots in the order.

For Chinese Taipei, Yi-Ting Yang, Feng-Chen Lin and Szu-Shih Li connected for the team's only three hits. An-Ju Chiu surrendered 5 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks, and was charged with the loss. 

Tomorrow, USA will close group play against northern neighbour Canada at 7 p.m., while Chinese Taipei will face Italy.
