Japan improves to 2-0 with win over Australia

The game had been suspended yesterday after four innings.

Japan earned their second win of the tournament, 10-1, against Australia and is close to clinching their place in the semifinals. The teams completed the game suspended yesterday after four innings.

The game resumed in the top of the fifth inning, with Australia forced to score at least three runs to keep the game alive. The green and gold team put a pair of runners on base with no outs, on a fielding error and a single by Sasha Willems, but then Misaki Katsumata retired the next three batters to end the game.

With this win, Japan moves to 2-0 in Group B and is close to securing a spot in the semifinals. Tomorrow the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champions will close the group stage against Puerto Rico at 4 p.m.

Australia will play later today in a win or go home game against the Puerto Rico at 4 p.m.
