13-hit attack gives Chinese Taipei first win at The World Games

The Asian squad topped Canada, 9-4, behind a 13-hit performance.

No. 6 Chinese Taipei defeated No. 3 Canada today, 9-4, in Game 2 of The World Games behind a 13-hit offensive effort. First baseman Chih-Ying Ling and designated player Chia-Yi Chen combined for four hits and four RBI with from the third a fourth spots in the lineup.

Canadians Jorde Chartrand and Morgan Rackel couldn’t stop Chinese Taipei’s lineup during the first five innings, allowing 12 hits and 9 runs combined. Nicola Simpson pitched the last two innings and stopped Chinese Taipei, giving up only a hit in two frames

With the score 1-0 for Chinese Taipei, Canada took the lead in the second inning with back to back solo homers by Kianna Jones and Erika Polidori. However, a four-run third inning gave Chinese Taipei control of the score and the game.

Chinese Taipei will play USA on Day 2, at 7 pm. local time, while Canada will take on Italy at 1 p.m.
