USA tops Italy in make-up game

USA earned their first win of the tournament, defeating Italy, 6-0, in a rescheduled game from day 1. Catcher Kinzie Hansen went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI to lead the US offense.

Ally Carda and hometown hero Montana Fouts shared the workload in the circle to blank the Italian team. Carda went 4 innings allowing 2 hits and recording 6 strikeouts, while Fouts struck out 8 in 3 innings of work.

For Italy, young Olympian Alexia Lacatena got the start and tossed five innings, giving up 6 runs, 11 hits and 3 walks. Alice Nicolini pitched two innings.

Amanda Lorenz and Dejah Mulipola both had a multi-hit game while Taylor Pleasants and Michelle Moultrie each had 2 RBI.

USA will complete day 2 with their game against Chinese Taipei tonight, while Italy (0-2 for the tournament) will close the group play tomorrow against Chinese Taipei.
