12U BWC: Carlos Fernandez Cycle leads Venezuela past Pakistan

Venezuela scores 19 of 24 runs in first two innings to beat Pakistan

Youth Park/Taipei City. Venezuela remains undefeated in the II 12U Baseball World Cup, defeating Pakistan 24-0 in the afternoon game on Wednesday at Youth Park. They scored 19 runs in the first two innings. Eight players scored at least twice, two of them – Carlos Fernandez and Jose Aguilar – crossed the plate four times. Venezuela improved to 5-0 in the tournament, Pakistan dropped to 0-6.

Carlos Fernandez and Daniel Perez highlighted Venezuela’s day one offense with home runs. Fernandez collected four hits, four runs and four RBI overall, hitting for the cycle. On the mound Juan Pedro Campos and Diego Cartaya kept Pakistan hitless through four scoreless innings. They combined to strike out eight. Their only blemishes were a walk in the second and a hit batter in the fourth.

Pakistan’s Abdul Rehman took the loss, issuing 15 hits, 19 runs (15 ER) and no walks in 1 2/3 innings. Syed M. Shah closed it out with 11 hits and five runs in 2 1/3 innings.

For Pakistan the tournament ended with the loss and a 0-6 deficit. Venezuela concludes the first round with a matchup against Panama on Wednesday morning at Youth Park.
