12U BWC: Mexico shuts out Czech Republic

Mexico improved to 3-2 with a 13-0 win over the Czech Republic

Tien-Mou/Taipei City. Mexico scored ten runs in the fourth and fifth of a 13-0 win over the Czech Republic on Wednesday afternoon at Tien-Mou Stadium. In the beginning the European Champion with Anezka Bartonova on the mound kept the score close, until falling apart with the bullpen in the game. With the win Mexico improved to 3-2. For the Czech team it was the fifth loss in the sixth game.

Mexico took a quick 3-0 lead through three innings and then blew the score wide open in the last two frames. Kevin Garcia highlighted the late push with his fourth home run of the tournament. He drove in three overall. Victor Zazueta scored three times. On the mound Luis Castellanos and Jesus Villegas struck out eight in five scoreless three-hit innings.

Marek Krejcrik, Tomas Chadim and Patrik Kadrnozka had the hits for the Czech Republic. Bartonova got her third start of the tournament, allowing five hits, five runs (3 ER) and two walks in 3 1/3 innings, taking the loss.

For the Czech Republic the tournament has been over with a 1-5 record and sixth place in Group A. Mexico will close out first-round play on Thursday with a crucial matchup against Japan in the afternoon game at Tien-Mou Stadium.
