12U BWC: Panama blanks Pakistan

Panama defeated Pakistan 29-0 thanks to four home runs, grand slam on Monday morning

Youth Park/Taipei City. Panama scored 11 runs in the first and nine apiece in the second and third to down Pakistan 29-0 on Monday morning at Youth Park. The Central Americans picked up 28 hits and collected four inside the park home runs in the victory. They improved to 2-2, while the Asian underdog dropped to 0-5.

Panama was led by center fielder Derek Arroyo who hit two inside the park home runs; including a grand slam in the third. Krysnar Grandison and Rennie Arjona already had rounded all four bases in the first to give Panama an early and commanding lead. Bryan Sanchez and Gamaliel Gonzalez had four hits each.

Gonzalez additionally pitched four scoreless one-hit innings for the win. He struck out five. Pakistan had its lone hit in the game, when Syed M. Shah singled with two outs in the top of the fourth. He eventually stole second, but a groundout ended the game denying the score. Playing their fifth consecutive day, Pakistan ran out of pitchers, so Syed A. Shah and Shah Ahmed had to share the workload on the mound.

After the rest day on Tuesday, Panama resumes play on Wednesday morning at Shing Sheng Stadium against Hong Kong. Pakistan will take on the undefeated Venezuelan squad in the afternoon at Youth Park – their last game of the II 12U Baseball World Cup.
