12U BWC: United States rebound with Shutout over Hong Kong

After loss against Venezuela, USA beats Hong Kong on Monday morning 18-0 for third win

Shing-Sheng/Taipei City. The United States are back in victory lane at the II 12U Baseball World Cup in Taipei City. On Monday morning the team of manager Dave Webb rebounded from Sunday’s loss to Venezuela with an 18-0 shutout over Hong Kong. 14 different players scored, as Team USA put eight runs on the board in the first and third apiece. They improved to 3-1 in the tournament, while Hong Kong enters the rest day with a 1-3 record in Group B.

The US squad gave more or less the whole roster playing time on the field due to the quick turnaround after the night game on Sunday. They started off the game with a furious series. The first eight hitters reached all reached with hits, three doubles and Elijah Ricks’ two-run home run. Overall four players scored twice in the game. Justin Campbell collected three hits, two runs and two RBI. Yohandy Morales drove in three.

On the mound Anthony Hall and Colton Olasin meanwhile cruised through the Hong Kong lineup with ease. Two walks in the second and the third were the only blemish. Hall picked up the win with five Ks in three frames. For Hong Kong Ryan Chi Lam Wong was charged with the loss. He issued eight hits and eight runs (7 ER), while getting just two outs in the first.

After the rest day both teams will return to the field on Wednesday.  Hong Kong takes on Panama at 10am at Shing Sheng Stadium. Team USA will play against Russia at the same time at Youth Park.
