12U BWC: USA defeats Pakistan for second win

Youth Park/Taipei City. Team USA got its second win at the II 12U Baseball World Cup, defeating Pakistan 20-0 on Friday morning at Youth Park. 15 runs in the first and five in the second lifted the team of head coach Dave Webb to the win.

The US squad had no troubles with the underdog, scoring easily from the beginning. 12 players crossed the plate at least once in the game. Gabriel Briones led all batter by going 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

Pakistan had its best scoring opportunity in the bottom of the second, when they loaded the bases with no outs on three consecutive walks. Kevin Martin took over on the mound for starter Edwin Godwin and struck out the side en route to close out the no-hit shutout.

Shoaib Sajjad and Syed Shah shared the workload on the mound for Pakistan with Sajjad taking the loss. Godwin received the win, pitching three one-walk innings in relief, while striking out six.

On Saturday Pakistan will take on Hong Kong at Youth Park in the afternoon. Team USA will be off before squaring off with Venezuela in their Tien-Mou clash on Sunday evening.
