2013 Australian Women’s Squad Announced

Manager Simone Wearne has announced the Australian Women’s Squad that will train towards the 2014 International Baseball Federation Women’s World Cup.

In a new phase for women’s baseball in Australia, the squad will spend the next sixteen months in a women’s high-performance program fuelled with hard work and dedication in order to be selected to represent their country.

The Australian Baseball Federation is committed to the development of women’s baseball from grassroots through to the elite national squad and have made changes in the national women’s program to reflect this.

Manager Wearne explained that the focus of this squad was not only on the 2014 Women’s World Cup, but also the development of young players that will one day be the future of this team;

“This squad has a great mix of youth and veterans, and I think is a fantastic group to taste some success in 2014” said Manager Wearne.

A notable name missing from the squad is veteran Sam Hamilton, who announced her retirement from the Australian Women’s team earlier this month, after having represented her country for twelve consecutive years and is one of only six women in the world to have competed at all five IBAF at twelve Women’s World Cups.

Sam is one of a generation of female baseball players in Australia who have pioneered a path of success and legacy of determination for today’s young talent to follow.
