The winter league season in baseball is coming traditionally to an end with the Caribbean Series. The 2013 event, which will be held from February 1 to February 7 in Hermosillo, Mexico, will feature the winter league champions from Mexico (Yaquis de Obregon), Puerto Rico (Criollos de Caguas), the Dominican Republic (Leones del Escogido) and Venezuela (Navegantes del Magallanes).
During the preliminary phase two rounds of round robin will be played. The top two teams will meet in the championship game on Thursday, February 7. The stadium in Hermosillo is a brand-new facility which will be inaugurated with the Caribbean Series.
The Caribbean Series was played for the first time in 1949. Leones del Escodigo from the Dominican Republic is the defending champion. The Tigres del Licey, also from the Dominican Republic, are the record title holder with 10.
