Aussie pitcher Liam Hendricks named MLB American League Reliever of the Year

The Perth native starred in his first season with the Chicago White Sox.

Australian 32-year old right-hander Liam Hendricks won for the second consecutive season Major League Baseball's Mariano Rivera American League Reliever of the Year Award.

Hendricks, a native of Perth, debuted in MLB in 2011 with the Minnesota Twins.

He became the first-ever Australian player to start an MLB postseason game in 2018.

On January 11, 2021, he signed a three-year contract with the Chicago White Sox worth US$ 54 million.

During his career, Hendricks participated in the 2010-2011 inaugural Australian Baseball League season playing for the Perth Heat and represented Australia at the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

MLB also announced that the winner of the Trevor Hoffman National League Reliever of the Year is 27-year old left-hander Josh Hader of the Milwaukee Brewers.
