Australia eliminate Chinese Taipei with narrow 4-3 win, remain in contention for second Finals spot

Australia will meet Great Britain, in a head-to-head battle for the second spot in next year’s Finals.

Australia defeated today Chinese Taipei in an elimination game, 4-3, and remain in the hunt for a spot in the 2024 Finals. Australia will meet Great Britain, in a head-to-head battle for the second spot in next year’s Finals.

In the second inning, Szu-Shih Li put Chinese Taipei ahead with a solo homer over the left field fence.

However, Australia came from behind to grab the lead in the bottom of the third, with back to back RBI singles by Kylie Steemers and Jade Wall. And then extended their lead in the fifth, with a run-scoring single by Taylah Tsitsikronis, and one inning later a single by Shannon Keevers gave Australia a 4-1 lead.

Chinese Taipei had the chance to tie the game in the seventh. A two-RBI triple off the bat of Chia-Yun Chang with two outs put the game 4-3, leaving the potential tying run on third base. Ellen Roberts replaced Kaia Parnaby with the mission of closing the game, and the right hander finished the game with a strikeout.

Parnaby tossed 6.2 innings, giving up seven hits and three runs, with two strikeouts and two walks. She earned the win.

With this result, Chinese Taipei finished Group A in fourth place, and is eliminated from the competition.
