Australia, New Zealand announce rosters for WBSC U-18 Softball World Cup Oceania Qualifier

The tournament will consist of a double round-robin format, with the teams playing six games in three days. The top two teams at the conclusion of the double round-robin will progress to the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup Group Stage in 2024.

World No. 7 Australia and No. 23 New Zealand, along with American Samoa, will compete in the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup Oceania Qualifier, scheduled from 5 to 7 November in Pago Pago, American Samoa. The top two teams from this tournament will advance to the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup Group Stage in 2024, with the World Cup Finals being played in 2025.

Amanda Fairley has been named head coach for the event, after two consecutive Canada Cup appointments as an Assistant Coach. The players in this team will also have a unique chance to be coached by Aussie Spirit and Steelers head coach, Laing Harrow, who will serve as an assistant coach for this team.

“International competition is a great developmental opportunity for young players and will give the team the chance to learn more about what it takes to compete against other countries and to be coached in the national team environment,”said National Pathways Manager Clare Humberstone.

“Success in this tournament is massively important for our programme and for the future of talented young female softballers in New Zealand," says Junior White Sox Head Coach Kiri Shaw.

“Finalising the team roster was not an easy task for our coaching staff as we evaluated squad members based on performances over the last couple of years,” added Shaw. “The group have travelled internationally this year, and last year to Australia and squad members have been observed at both club and provincial competitions and tournaments”.
