Baseball Canada partners with youth league to put sport at service of children with mental/physical challenges

Baseball Canada has announced a partnership with Little League Baseball Canada that will see both organisations jointly run the “Challenger Baseball” programme across Canada.

Baseball Canada has announced a partnership with Little League Baseball Canada that will see both organisations jointly run the “Challenger Baseball” programme across Canada.

According to Baseball Canada, the Challenger Baseball programme provides an opportunity for children with cognitive or physical disabilities to enjoy the full benefits of participation in baseball at a level specifically structured to their abilities.

World Baseball Softball Confederations officials continue to underline that both baseball and softball have properties that can easily be adapted and be exercised by people of all ages and abilities — and by both genders and across all social and economic conditions.

Baseball Canada President Ray Carter expressed his satisfaction on the beginning of the long-term ‘sport for all’ partnership.

“We are very excited to work with Little League Canada on this initiative and look forward to seeing the program grow for years to come,” said Carter. “With both organisations working together, Challenger Baseball will now be available to even more families across Canada which is nothing but positive for the programme.”

“Challenger Baseball is a programme that Little League Canada has been offering since 1988. We are thrilled that Baseball Canada has jumped on board and we look forward to what the partnership will become in the future,” said Little League Canada President and Chairman, Roy Bergerman.

A new website for Challenger Baseball in Canada, challengerbaseball.ca, has also been launched that includes information sharing on different programs offered across Canada, how to start a Challenger Baseball program, along with news and key contact information for Challenger Baseball in Canada.

“The new website will provide important resources for both current and interested Challenger Baseball Programmes and will also help the programme build a strong brand from coast-to-coast,” said Ian McLean, National Coordinator, Challenger Baseball Canada.
