The country's national baseball and softball federation introduced the sport to 100 new players on the occasion of Opening Day.

Baseball and softball are celebrating the start of their 2022 campaigns in West Africa's Ivory Coast.

Kicking off the 2022 Ivory Coast season, the Sorciers de Koumassi defeated the Pitbull de Marcory on 14 April at the Koumassy High School.

The Ivory Coast Baseball and Softball Federation (FIBS, Fédération Ivorienne de Baseball et Softball) President Luc Bredou congratulated both Opening Day teams.

FIBS took advantage of Opening Day festivities to introduce the game to approximately 100 youth, aged 10-15, from a local sports club that is exploring the inclusion of baseball and softball activities amongst its program.

President Bredou addressed the participants at the opening ceremony. He mentioned the great development opportunity that Baseball5 is bringing and expressed his hope that the Ivory Coast will soon be able to compete in the five-on-five version of baseball/softball.

Five-on-five Baseball5 will be played at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Dakar, Senegal -- marking the first time any baseball-softball discipline is featured on the official YOG programme.
