Burkina Faso proud of new baseball softball field in Ouagadougou

"It was difficult to practice baseball and softball in the Capital before," said Federation president Ibrahima Sibore. The Japanese Embassy fully funded the project.

Burkina Faso Baseball Softball Federation (FBBS) President Ibrahima Sibore said how proud he is of a new baseball and softball field in Ouagadougou, which was inaugurated on 26 December

"We have suffered from the lack of infrastructure for a long time," Sibore said. "It was difficult to practice baseball and softball in our nation's capital before the inauguration of this field."

The venue, which cost Central Africa Francs 51.5 million, US$ 83,400 and was fully funded by the Japanese Embassy, occupies 21,822 square meters (234,890 square feet).

"It's up to FBBS to fill this venue with activity," commented Masaaki Kato, the Japanese Ambassador to Burkina Faso, "and make it an excellence in talent's development."

Kato also recommended FBBS to invest in maintenance. "We will show we have improved the venue the next time Your Excellence visits it," commented Burkina Faso's Minister of Youth and Sports, Boubacar Savadogo. "We want to maintain and improve it."

FBBS players followed an online clinic by the Yomiuri Giants of Nippon Professional Baseball from the new field.
