Camagüey won the Central Zone finals and qualified with runner-up Sancti Spíritus for the IV Cuban Baseball5 National Championship, scheduled from 7 to 12 May in Havana. They joined Havana and Artemisa, who qualified through the Western Zone tournament.
The Eastern Zone finals, scheduled in Santiago on 30 and 31 March, will complete the teams participating in the National Championship.
Camagüey dominated the Central Zone with a 5-1 record. Sancti Spiritus and the hosts Ciego de Avila tied for second place, and Sancti Spiritus earned a ticket for the National Finals, winning a one-game playoff, 1-0.
Edurman Cruz, a 17-year-old top prospect representing Camagüey, earned male MVP honours. World Champion Lietis Arcia Martínez (Sancti Spiritus) was voted the female MVP.
Eros Bernal, the technical head of Baseball5 in Cuba, congratulated Ciego de Avila for organizing the event and the participating teams for their fair play throughout the tournament.
