Casanova’s four RBIs spark run-difference win for Cuba over South Africa

The Caribbean team scored multiple runs in three innings, carried by a three-hit, four RBI performance by Yanisleidys Casanova.

Cuba defeated South Africa, 10-3 in six innings, on Day 2 of the Women’s Softball World Cup Group B. The Caribbean team scored multiple runs in three innings, carried by a three-hit, four RBI performance by Yanisleidys Casanova. 

Cuba collected 14 hits in their six attacks, scoring three in the second, four in the third and three more in the sixth inning. Along with Casanova, Yilian Rondon and Rosangela Jardines had a three-hit game each.

From the circle, Yamerki Guevara tossed the first four innings, and was replaced by Anisley Lopez in the fifth, with the score 7-0. However, the South African lineup received her with a five-hit, three run attack to make it 7-3. Cassandra Kalpes produced the first run, while Shane Luyt connected a double to drive in two runs.

Guevara returned to the circle to complete the sixrth inning. She ended with 14 strikeouts while giving up only one hit.

Cuba earned their second won of the tournament, and later today they will meet Spain in Game 7 of the Group B.
