Chinese Taipei beat Germany, share Group A top spot with Venezuela

The hosts will play for Group A's first place against Venezuela to close Day 5.

An eight-run first at-bat made the rest of the game a formality. World No. 4 Chinese Taipei defeated No. 19 Germany in five innings, 13-2, on Monday at the VII WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup.

With a runner at first and one out, Germany's starter Henk Lenhart walked two batters in a row. Chinese Taipei capitalised on that with four consecutive hits, a double by Yu-Yen and singles by Chang-Ruei Chen, Hao-Han Luo and Lei Yeh. Hung-Kai Chen hit a two-out double to cap the at-bat. Chinese Taipei led 8-0 in the middle of the first.

Germany took advantage of a throwing error to get on the scoreboard against Chang Ruei Chen in the bottom of the first, but the starting pitcher quickly took back what he allowed. Chen doubled in the top of the second, starting a rally that extended Chinese Taipei's lead to 11-1.

Gyan-Syu Chen and Sheng Rang Wang pitched the final two innings for Chinese Taipei.

Chinese Taipei and Venezuela, both undefeated, will play for Group A's first place on Day 5. Germany will face Mexico.
