Pitching leads Chinese Taipei to 4-1 win over Mexico

Chinese Taipei scored first, and then Mexico tied the game. The hosts added three runs in the last two frames, winning their third and remaining undefeated.

Chinese Taipei stayed on top of Group A in the opening round after a 4-1 win over Mexico. It’s their third victory in the XXXI WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup.

Meng-Chih Hu scored on a defensive error in the top of the second, helping Chinese Taipei lead 1-0.

Mexico were not going to let Chinese Taipei take all the spotlight, when in the bottom of the fourth, Omar Bustamante singled up the middle, driving Angel Arredondo home and tying the game at one.

Later in the sixth, Chinese Taipei retook the lead, 2-1, with Chao-Hung Chang’s one-RBI single to left field. Right after, Chinese Taipei loaded the bases on a walk and added another run on another walk, extending the lead to 3-1. Mexico turned to their third reliever of the game, Leonel Murrieta, who got out of the bases-loaded jam.

As the rain started to get heavier, Chinese Taipei extended the lead to 4-1 in the top of the seventh with Hsun-Hsieh Lee’s one-RBI single to left field.
