The Chinese Taipei Baseball Association (CTBA) announced a 24-player roster which will open Camp on 23 July before the XXXI WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup, which CTBA will host in Taipei City and Taichung from 31 August to 10 September.
The preliminary roster is highlighted by two-way phenom Sheng-En Lin, who recently signed for the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball (MLB) for a US$1.2 million bonus.
Lin competed in the U-18 Baseball World Cup 2022 as a 17-year-old. He appeared as a position player in three games, covering all three outfield positions, third base, and in one as the designated hitter. He posted a 2-1 record as a pitcher, starting the World Championship game against the United States. He shut out Japan for five innings on 13 September.
CTBA revealed that the 24-player roster includes six members already drafted by CPBL teams. Manager Po-Hung Wu will select the final 18-player roster after 10 exhibition games against Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) minor league teams.
World No. 4 Chinese Taipei will compete in Group A and face No. 3 Mexico, No. 5 Korea, No. 9 Australia, No. 11 Puerto Rico and No. 16 Czechia.
