Rain postpones CPBL Opening Day to Sunday, 12 April

The opener between defending champions, Rakuten Monkeys and the Chinatrust Brothers will be played at a later date due to rain. Two games are scheduled for Sunday.

Opening Day of Taiwan's Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) was postponed due to heavy rains that made the field of the Taoyuan International Baseball Stadium unplayable. The game between the hosts and defending champions, Rakuten Monkeys and the Chinatrust Brothers will be rescheduled for a later date.

The robotic cheering section, which has generated headlines worldwide, was ready for the opener.

But now the CPBL season will start tomorrow (Sunday, 12 April).

The Rakuten Monkeys will host the Taipei-based Fubon Guardians. The Chinatrust Brothers will host in Taichung the Uni-President 7Eleven Lions based in Tainan.

CPBL is the first professional baseball league to schedule a season opening.

The 2020 CPBL regular season will run until 14 October. Commissioner John Wu confirmed to the local media that the whole season will be played according to the government directives that aim at prevent the spreading of COVID-19. No more than 500 people, including the teams, will be admitted to the games.
