World No. 1 Cuba announced an expanded roster of 16 players for the international Baseball5 season. The Baseball5 technical head, Eros Bernal, told the local media that the selection is based on the outcome of the National Championship.
The roster includes nine men and seven women and has an average age of 23.
The list of nine men includes defending World Champions Briandy Molina, Orlando Amador and Cristian Basabe and defending Youth World Champions Jadier Ulloa, Josué Gutièrrez, Alexander Ortiz and Yoel Blanco. The National Championship MVP, Jean Carlos Correoso, and his teammate Mario Sergio Rodriguez will make their National Team debut.
The seven women include defending World Champions Shakira Aspiazù, Claudia Lores and Lietis Arcia and defending Youth World Champions Haila Gonzalez, Claudia Gomez and Armand Diaz. Yiliena Otamendez completes the roster.
The 16 players will split into two teams (Cuba Red and Cuba Blue) and participate in the second Baseball5 Caribbean Cup, scheduled from 2 to 6 June in Varadero where the two Cuban sides will face world No. 4 France and No. 46 Jamaica.
The defending Baseball5 World Champions will then select a final roster for the WBSC Americas Baseball5 World Cup Qualifier, which is scheduled for June 26 to 30 in Venezuela.
The top three finishers will qualify for the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup 2024. Hong Kong will host the second edition of the Baseball5 World Cup from 7 to 12 October.
