The Burkina Faso men’s baseball and women’s softball
national championships, Interleague Cup 2023, concluded on Saturday, July 29, at
the national federation grounds in Balkuy.
Multiple national titlists Delwende Baseball Club of
Gounghin defended their Interleague Cup title with a 15-1 win over long-time
rivals Koudougou Baseball Club.
In the third-place game, Silures of Bobo bagged the win after beating Avenir Baseball Club of Fada. Ziniare Baseball finished in fifth place.
Meanwhile, Les Tigresses of Ouaga defeated the team of
Silures in the women’s softball final. The Ouaga-based squad capped the third
inning with a 10-0 scoreline, retaining the national title.
Delwende’s Moussa Sanfo and Les Tigresses’ Gue Sabine were
named Best Players of the Interleague Cup.
His Excellency Kato Masaki, Ambassador and Plenipotentiary of Japan in Burkina Faso, graced the formal handover ceremony, where 1,566 items of baseball equipment were donated to the Burkina Faso Baseball and Softball Federation.
The sport equipment was received last February from Mr
Ogassawara of the Chunichi Dragons Club to help the national federation’s
promotion of the sport in the country.
