Denise Perez’s bat told the story of the game between Mexico and Hong Kong, China on Thursday at Port Arthur in Thunder Bay. The Mexican second base had a monster offensive game, going 4-for-4 with a homer, eight RBIs and two scored runs, in Mexico’s 16-6 win at the IX WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup.
Mexico had four multiple-run games that were all highlighted by Perez's heroics, when she drove in the second run of the game with a single in the first inning.
Hong Kong, China took the lead in the second with a six-run outburst, including two-RBI doubles by Wing Hin Ng and Wing Ki Mui. Hiu Tung Leung and Hai Lei Chang contributed with RBI knocks. But in the bottom half of the inning, with Mexico trailing 6-3, Perez belted a game-tying three run shot over the left field fence.
In the fourth, Perez capped a three-run inning with a two-RBI double and in the fifth she walked it off with another two-run double to left centre field.
