En-Shi Hsu leads Chinese Taipei to win over Czech Republic

Chinese Taipei won two-out-of-two games on Day 2. The host team's victory over Czech Republic put them on top of the standings.

En-Shi Hsu had two hits and two RBIs that helped Chinese Taipei to record its second win of the day, beating the Czech Republic 7-2 on Thursday at the II WBSC U-12 Softball World Cup at Jin-Long Stadium.

Yuan-Hsi Tien pitched in all innings for Chinese Taipei, allowing two runs and three hits, to outplay Czech pitcher Nathalie Budinova.

After a win against Hong Kong earlier in the day, Chinese Taipei showed no signs of slowing down when they started the first inning against the Czech Republic with a Sheng-Zhi Wu run. The centre fielder showed excellent base-running instincts after reaching first base on a fielding error. He stole the next two bases, until En-Shi Hsu’s single to third base saw him to run get home to put the hosts in the lead 1-0.

The Chinese Taipei lead suddenly grew to 7-0 after a six-run offensive burst in the second inning, with Tzu-Chiao Ou making the initial run, followed by I-Ying Shih and Yue-Cen Wu completing their runs off singles by Liang Yi-Cheng and Ya-Hsien Hsieh, respectively. Ya-Hsien and Sheng-Zhi Wu were both in scoring positions when a throwing error occurred that enabled them to reach home plate, then Liang closed it with the final run when catcher Johana Slavikova failed to gather a pitch.

Kristyna Sestakova took matters into her own hands to get the offence going for the Czech Republic, as she doubled down the right field line, before she and Krystof Roll got into scoring positions after two errors from Chinese Taipei. Sestakova made a run to the home plate, while Roll scored the second run as Johana Slavikova reached on fielder’s choice.

After being held scoreless in the next inning, Chinese Taipei pitcher Yuan-His Tien ensured that no further runs were scored to secure the victory in the fifth.
