First Federal Baseball5 School Championship takes place in Chile

Boys and girls in the U-10, U-15 and U-17 age brackets participated in the first Federal School Championship in Santiago.

A collaboration agreement between the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (Physical Education Pedagogy), the Chile Baseball and Softball Federation and the B&S Foundation resulted in the first Federal Baseball5 School Championship.

The Federation licensed the Physical Education Pedagogy students as Baseball5 instructors.

Boys and girls of the 6-17 age bracket from the Los Ceibos de Talagante, Reina Norte de Colina and Hernando de Magallanes de Estación Central school districts participated in the event in the capital city Santiago.

Los Ceibos de Talagante won the U-15 and U-17 tournaments, while Hernando de Magallanes-Estación Central won the U-10 event.

The organisers said the five-on-five, mixed gender, urban version of baseball/softball generated plenty of enthusiasm and high expectations for the future.

"We intend to involve more districts and more age brackets," the Chile Baseball and Softball Federation in a press release. "We also plan on involving top-level athletes and field Baseball5 National Teams."
