Frank Ugas to lead Venezuela at WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup

The right handed pitcher participated in the Men’s Softball World Cup last year in Auckland, New Zealand, helping his team to a sixth place finish.

Ugas and Angel Adames are the two players in the roster who appeared in the senior World Cup in December. The right-handed pitcher posted a 2.86 ERA in 7.1 innings, with six strikeouts; Adames played right field for Venezuela, hitting .154.

Venezuela hosted the Americas qualifier for WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup, and earned the bronze medal. Ugas was the ace of the team during the qualifier, posting a 0.66 ERA.

Venezuela will open the WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup in a very competitive Group B, facing No. 2 Canada, No. 3 Japan, No. 6 New Zealand, No 13 Team WBSC and No. 21 Israel. Venezuela will play Canada on Saturday’s opening day.
