IBAF AMERICA – COPABE Executive Committee holds Meeting in Curacao

The Executive Committee of IBAF AMERICA-COPABE held its second meeting of the year in Curacao. Hosted by Vocal Member Thakaizwa Doran of the Netherlands Antilles a couple of items were discussed.

A) Two youth tournaments will be organized by IBAF AMERICA-COPABE this fall. From November 20 to 10, Barranquilla, Colombia will host the XXVI Pan-American 12U Championship.  And from November 18 to 28, Portoviejo, Guayaquil, Ecuador will host the XVII Pan-American 10U Championship.

B) IBAF AMERICA-COPABE announced the winners of the 2011 Awards:
Best youth player: Miguel Amaya (Panama)
Best junior player: Reinaldo Almonte (USA)
Best senior player: Andrew Albers (Canada)
Best manager: Scott Brosius (USA)
Best umpire: William Cogollo (Colombia)
Best federation: Baseball Canada
Best leader: Eduardo de Bello (Panama)

C) IBAF AMERICA-COPABE also announced 2013 competitions in the Americas. The I 15U Pan-American Championship will be held in Colombia and the I 21U Pan-American Championship in Panama. The latter will serve as qualifier for the inaugural IBAF 21U Baseball World Championship in 2014.

D) A project was introduced, an elite tournament for senior players in the Americas. Format would be similar to the World Baseball Classic, while federations would use minor league and amateur players. In the first stage the best countries on the continent would participate with an expansion to be planned for the second stage. The Executive Committee will discuss the format with its member federations, trying to establish dates and venues.

E) Additionally Chairmen for the Technical, Legal, Medical and Marketing Commissions were appointed.
