Jhonson Freitez leads Venezuela to win over Germany

Venezuela finished their Opening Round with a 4-1 record and will start the Super Round at 1-1.

Jhonson Freitez had a productive outing against Germany. He had two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs, including the walk-off, helping Venezuela to an 11-1 victory on Wednesday at Asia-Pacific International Baseball Training Centre, concluding their Opening Round at the VII WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup.

Venezuela earned scored runs in the bottom of the first, setting the pace for a win in five innings.

Germany got on the scoreboard in the third. Tizian Sulilatu singled to right field, reached second on a wild pitch and went to third on Cooper Hegen’s single up the middle. The catcher scored on a bases-loaded walk by starter José Ramirez.

Germany had the chance to add more runs, but Venezuela reliever Luis Yepez got out of a bases-loaded jam with a strikeout.

Venezuela presented their whole lineup at-bat and added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth, ending the inning with a 10-1 lead.

Venezuela scored the run they needed to end the game in the bottom of the fifth. With the bases loaded, Freitez’s groundout extended the lead to 11-1.

Venezuela finished the Opening Round with a 4-1 record and will start the Super Round at 1-1.
