Jose Camargo throws complete game shutout, as Mexico beat Germany

The starting pitcher went the distance, striking out five and allowing three hits and three walks. Mexico will play Japan for a place in the Super Round.

Mexico needed only four and a half innings to complete a 10-0 win against Germany on Tuesday in the Opening Round of the VII WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup.

Starting pitcher Jose Camargo threw a complete game, striking out five and allowing three hits and three walks.

Both teams started the game quietly until Santiago Garcia scored the first run. Jose Burciaga followed with a single through the left side and sent two of his teammates home, giving Mexico the 3-0 lead.

Germany retired runners in the bottom of the third with a well-executed double play. Mexico ended up pocketing two runs without any hit.

Mexico rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 10-0. Esteban Gillardo drove in the fourth run.

In the top of the fifth, Germany loaded the bases. One run would have extended the game into the sixth, but Camargo struck out two and ended the game.

Mexico improved their record to 2-2 in the Opening Round and will face Japan on Wednesday, 2 August, at 11.00 local time in an elimination game for a Super Round spot. Germany dropped to 1-3 and will face Venezuela at 18.30.
