Magos de Tenerife, Italia LeZie win Softball European Masters Cups in Barcelona

European softball masters club championships took place in Barcelona, Spain.

The Softball European Masters Cups in Barcelona, Spain, concluded over the weekend. In the male championship, Magos de Tenerife topped Denmark Old Stars, 18-1, in a decisive match that lasted only three innings. Italia LeZie won the women's tournament after going perfect in the round-robin (the last day of competition was rained out).

Venezuelan stars Erick Urbaneja and Luiger Pinto led Magos to the title with superb performances. Pinto batted .800 for the tournament with 3 home runs, and Urbaneja hit .333 with 2 dingers, and also dominated from the circle, winning the final game allowing 1 hit and 1 run, while getting 5 strikeouts. The Denmark Old Stars took the silver, while Tempo Praha (Prague) won the bronze medal game, 1-0, against France club Les Gaulois. Jonas Mach pitched a no-hit no-run for the Czech squad, with 14 strikeouts.

The women’s tournament saw Italia LeZie winning the title after a perfect run in the round robin. They went undefeated in four games to finish on top of the standings. The playoffs couldn’t be played due to rain, so the Italian squad grabbed the title. Second place was Dutch Old Stars and third place Euskadi.

Argentine Gabriela Chaparro of Euskadi was the top hitter of the tournament with a .636 average, adding 11 RBI to her offensive production. She also led the tournament in strikeouts, with 12.
