Mexico make history, open Baseball5 World Cup with win over Lithuania

Roared on by a passionate crowd and inspired by the impressive backdrop of the National Palace at El Zocalo, Mexico claimed the honour of being the first team ever to win a Baseball5 World Cup game.

The hosts Mexico and European deputy champions Lithuania took the court straight after the Opening Ceremony and put on a spectacle for the 2,000 strong crowd with a game full of drama.

While the final score of 2-0 (5-3, 4-2) reflected Mexico’s dominance throughout the game with superior ball skills and speed of hand, it doesn’t deflect from the shaky start as Mexico trailed 3-0 after Lithuania’s first turn at bat.

It was the bottom of the third when Mexico scored five runs to secure the lead, a lead they would never relinquish over the two games - winning the first game 5-3 and the second 4-2.
