National Team members among 10 finalists for USA’s 2022 Collegiate Player of the Year

Previous recipients of the award include Olympians Stacey Nuveman, Cat Osterman, Monica Abbott, Danielle Lawrie, Keilani Ricketts and Rachel Garcia; WBSC World Champions Ashley Hansen, Kelly Barnhill, and Junior World Champion Lauren Haeger, among others.

USA Softball Women’s National Team members Jocelyn Alo and Kelly Maxwell, British ace Georgina Corrick and 2017 Junior Women’s Softball World Champion Baylee Klinger are still in the race for the 2022 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award. USA Softball revealed the 10 players still vying for the most prestigious individual honour in NCAA Division I college softball.

USA Softball Heather Tarr named Alo and Maxwell to USA’s 2022 roster for the Japan All-Star Series, to be played in Fukushima and Yokohama later this year. Alo will also represent USA in the Canada Cup.

Corrick, who has played for Great Britain in the WBSC Junior Women’s Softball World Championship (2017), the Women’s Softball World Championship (2018) and the Europe Africa Olympic Qualifier (2019), is having a dream season. According to NCAA website, she has thrown 26 complete games — one more than the batters she's walked. She has struck out 331 batters, which are 50 more than any other pitcher in Division I softball. Her earned run average is 0.48, third best in the nation.

Klinger was the everyday third baseman in USA’s gold-medal winning junior team at the 2017 World Championship played in Clearwater, Florida, USA. She hit .393 with 10 runs scored, two home runs, and 12 RBI.

The top three finalists will be revealed on May 18. The 2022 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be announced prior to the NCAA Women’s College World Series, which is scheduled for June 1-10 at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex.

Previous recipients of the award include Olympians Stacey Nuveman, Cat Osterman, Monica Abbott, Danielle Lawrie, Keilani Ricketts and Rachel Garcia, in addition to WBSC Softball World Champions Ashley Hansen and Kelly Barnhill, and Junior World Champion Lauren Haeger, among others.
