No. 1 USA defeat No. 3 Cuba 5-4 to secure place in final of U-18 Americas Championship

USA will play either Canada or Cuba in the gold medal finale on Sunday.

CIUDAD CONSTITUCĺON, Mexico – In front of a full and electric “Fito” Montaño Stadium Friday night, the USA Baseball 18U National Team (@USABaseball18U) defeated Cuba, 5-4, to clinch a spot in Sunday’s 2014 18U IBAF Americas “Pan American” Championship gold-medal game.

The last meeting between the two superpowers was last month in the gold medal finale of the 15U Baseball World Cup, where Cuba defeated the U.S. to capture the 15U World Title.

USA will await the winner of Saturday Canada versus Cuba contest.

The elite 18U IBAF Americas Championship also serves as a qualifier for the 2015 18U Baseball World Cup in Japan

The nine-nation IBAF Americas Championship opened on Sept. 5 and will conclude on Sunday, Sept. 14.

Top-ranked U.S. are the two-time defending 18U World Champions.
