Pitchers Morales Weggeman and Bogardt secure Germany a win

The German staff limited Australia to three hits.

Germany started their VII WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup journey with a win against Australia, 7-3, at Asia-Pacific International Baseball Training Centers. Starting pitcher Felipe Morales Weggeman struck out seven, and reliever Rafael Bogardt only allowed one hit, securing a win for the team.

In the bottom of the first, Henk Lenhart singled to shortstop, sending Morales Weggeman home. Constantin Bieth and Lenhart later brought home two runs, helping Germany end the first inning 3-0.

In the third, Germany first got on first and second base with two singles by Gideon Kutzner and Mason Cameron and thrived on walks, scoring four runs and extending the lead to 7-0.

In the top of the sixth, Australia started a comeback attempt, earning their first run thanks to Tobey Kelman’s double to centre field. The attempt stopped at three.

Germany turned to Bogardt, who only allowed one hit and secured the win. Australia used four pitchers, starter Archer Petersen and relievers Hugh Kelly, Harry Roberts and Max Minard.

Up next, Germany will face World No.1 Japan, while Australia will play Venezuela.
