Puerto Rico defeats Panama 7-2, stays in the hunt for a U-15 Baseball World Cup medal

Puerto Rican starter Gerant Vega pitched four no-hit innings.

Behind a four-inning, no-hit outing from starter Gerant Verga, Puerto Rico earned on Friday their first win in the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup Super Round to remain in contention for a spot in the medal games. The Puerto Ricans topped Panama, 7-2, and moved to 1-3 in the standings.

Puerto Rican starter Gerant Vega pitched four no-hit innings, but was responsible for Panama’s two runs in the game. After cruising through the first four innings, in the fifth he gave up three consecutive walks before being pulled. Two of the runners scored on a fielder's choice and a grounder. 

Seven of 10 Puerto Rican hitters hit safely in the game, with Orlando Cruz and Enrico Carrion getting a pair of hits. 

For Panama, the losing pitcher was Gustavo Garcia, who went three innings and allowed three runs.
