Puerto Rico Double-A League announces tie-break format to determine semifinalists

Five teams finished with a 3-4 record behind Toritos del Cayey and Piratas de Cabo Royo. The other two semifinalists will emerge from a three-team tournament played through Sunday, 13 August.

The defending champions Toritos del Cayey and Los Piratas de Cabo Rojo qualified for the semifinals of the Puerto Rican Double-A Superior League at the end of the eight-team round-robin named Carnaval de Campeones.

The other five teams finished with a 3-4 record.

The Executive Board of the Baseball Federation of Puerto Rico (FBPR) decided on a tie-break format.

Areneros de Camuy earned a Wild Card to a three-team tournament, including the winners of the one-game playoffs between Grises de Humacao-Guardianes de Dorado and Halcones de Gurabo-Peces Voladores de Salinas.

The top two finishers of this tournament will advance to the semifinals. In case of a three-way 1-1 tie, the team with the least runs allowed will qualify for the semifinals, and the second will be the winner of a one-game playoff between the other two.

The Baseball Federation of Puerto Rico (FBPR) also announced that instant replay for on-field review will be available to umpires during the Double-A final series.
