Seunghyeok Yang's RBI single in sixth drives Korea past Australia

After giving up three runs in the first, Korea tied the game in the bottom half of the frame and claimed the victory thanks to an RBI single by Seunghyeok Yang in the bottom of the sixth.

Seunghyeok Yang had an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth driving World No. 3 Korea to a 4-3 win over Australia in Group B of the IV WBSC Baseball World Cup on Monday.

Korea did not start the way they wanted but they were focused enough to stage a comeback from an early 3-0 deficit by tying the game and scoring the winning run.

Australia got to Korean starter Junho Lee with one out in the first inning, with Dermot Fristsch hitting an RBI and Chris Burke with a home run to the right field for the 3-0 lead.

Despite the 3-0 advantage, Australia's starter Matthews Hampton struggled and left the game without getting an out. The first hitter reached on an error, Matthews hit the second, and Seunghwa Song loaded the bases with an infield single.

Matthews walked in the first run, and Donghee Yoon tied the game with a two-RBI single. Dylan Clarke took the mound and closed the inning with no further damage.

Sejin Cho led off the sixth with a single off reliever Tom Wynne. Korea bunted him to second, and Cho reached third on an error. Seunghyeok Yang followed with an RBI single that proved the winning run.

Kijung Kim earned the win pitching four innings in relief, Donghyun Sung got the last three outs and earned the save.

Korea are on top of Group B with 3-0 record and will face Puerto Rico on Tuesday at 13.00 local time and will play Mexico in their rescheduled game on Wednesday, while Australia will meet the Netherlands at 16.00 and Puerto Rico at 19.00 on Monday.
