Softball New Zealand Women’s National Team eyes potential LA28 Olympics, World Cup as prelim roster revealed

New Zealand White Sox head coach Roman Gabriel has named a new squad after last weekend’s off-season training camp at Western Springs College, Nga Puna O Waiorea.

New Zealand announced their Women’s National Softball Team preliminary roster after a successful training camp held last weekend at Western Springs College, Nga Puna O Waiorea.

Back in 2020, before the pandemic hit the sports world, Gabriel said that New Zealand’s long term goal was to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. After a long period of time off the field, he was able to work again with the players on the diamond.

“It was an excellent weekend and well over-due with the last 12 months being very tough on everyone within our softball community but also the entire country,” said New Zealand White Sox head coach Roman Gabriel.

The players will continue with a regional training program, aiming to name a team to tour Australia at the end of the year.

Softball New Zealand said the tour will serve to get some "well needed games under our belts as we prepare for a World Cup Qualifier in 2023.”

“I am excited about the path we are on as a collective group, and everyone looks to be on the same page,” Gabriel said.
