Spain sweeps France in friendly three-game women’s softball series

Both teams are getting ready for the European Women’s Softball Championship in Italy that starts in June.

The Spanish Women’s National Softball Team swept France, 5-0, 4-1 and 13-8, in a three-game series played this past week at Antonio Hervás Field in Sant Boi, Barcelona, as part of a friendly series between the two neighbour countries.

The two teams used the series as a tune-up for the European Softball Championship in Italy, which is scheduled for 27 June to 3 July.

The victories in the WBSC sanctioned international series will give Spain six points in the WBSC Women’s Softball Rankings upon the next update.

The series was part of a broader training camp for the Spanish team. Head Coach Orel Morales called up 18 players for the camp.

It was France’s first games since the breakout of the pandemic.

Spain finished in fifth place in the European Softball Championship 2019, while France finished sixth.
