Strong pitching give Mexico 7th-9th Place Round win over Venezuela

Pitchers Juan Diego Rodriguez, Daniel Hernandez and Jose Villalobos combined for 10 strikeouts against two hits and three runs.

Mexico topped Venezuela, 8-3, in the first game of the Placement Round (7th to 9th place) of the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup 2022 in Hermosillo, Mexico. Pitchers Juan Diego Rodriguez, Daniel Hernandez and Jose Villalobos combined for 10 strikeouts, while allowing just two hits and three runs. 

Venezuela’s hits came in the first and sixth innings, connected by Aaron Arroyo and Luis Cova. Arroyo produced two runs.

Mexico scored twice in the second to tie the game, and a pair of three-run innings in the fifth and sixth to take the lead. Alonso Gallegos (2-for-4) had a multi-hit game and scored two runs, while Edwin Villavicencio also scored twice.

Rafael Lasorsa was charged with the loss for Venezuela.
